Product Specification

It is “what’s behind the door” that counts when buying a kitchen.

Sterling Designs Limited have developed a reputation for manufacturing quality kitchens and in order to do so we only use the highest quality materials, components and production techniques. Detailed below is our standard specification which ensures that we always supply a “Sterling” kitchen, a quality kitchen to be proud of.

Carcase Construction

All carcases are manufactured from 18mm high density melamine faced chipboard (MFC), they are assembled using nickel plated die cast cam grip connecting fittings and high quality multi-grooved beech dowels. Each cabinet is fitted with an adjustable shelving system and is delivered fully assembled.

Base Units

The base units are all fitted with 150mm fully adjustable feet to protect the cabinet from humidity and flooding. The plinths are continuous and fit to the feet of the cabinets by means of “snap-on” clips which enable the plinths to be removed for cleaning, allowing the maintenance of a high level of hygiene protection throughout the kitchen.

The rear of all base units have a 60mm service void to enable any “ducting” to be situated behind the cabinet for added protection and without the need to cut the carcase.

Drawers are manufactured using Blum “metabox” epoxy coated steel sides with the base and back of the drawer manufactured from 18mm MFC. Nylon runners ensure a perfect running action throughout its service life.

Wall Units

All wall units are fitted with fully adjustable hanging brackets which have a 70kg loading capacity per unit and also allow accurate levelling of units with a 28mm vertical and depth adjustable facility.

The cabinets have a 4mm hardboard back panel with the exception of our “decor” carcases which have a matching 8mm MFC back panel.

Doors

The door construction varies with the range selected from our brochure. We offer a wide range of styles including laminates, MDF, foil wrapped, veneered and solid timber constructions.

All doors are fitted with Blum “Modul” nickel plated hinges which combine wide opening angles with unsurpassed stability. Each door is fitted with silicon buffers to silence the closing action and to protect the door and cabinet from damage.

We would point out however, when 170? hinges are supplied, due to the nature of the design, it is not possible to totally eliminate gaps (an object with the diameter of a pencil can still be inserted). Due to this fact, we strongly recommend the fitting of child safety latches to eliminate any dangers of a child inserting his/her fingers.

To compliment each door we offer a range of die cast, solid brass, timber, polyester and porcelain handles to enable the door style selected to be customised to your own requirements.

Sizes and Specials

Our cabinets are manufactured to industry standard widths namely 300, 400, 450, 500, 600, 700, 800, 900, 1000 and 1200mm. The base units have a standard height of 870mm (including feet) and wall units are available in 570, 720 and 900mm heights. As we manufacture all our own cabinets we are able to manufacture cabinets to non-standard sizes if required.

Accessories

A wide range of matching accessories are available including canopies, wine racks, glass wall units, plate racks, dressers, cornice and pelmet for each of our own door styles. This enables the customer to individually design their own kitchen.

Worktops

Our worktops are generally manufactured with a high pressure laminate surface which is highly durable, moisture, heat and scratch resistant. These are also available in a wide range of colours and textures. Moreover the worktop is guaranteed to be light fast and will not fade under normal circumstances.

The front and back edges are completely sealed to prevent moisture and steam from washing machines and dishwashers penetrating into the core of the worktop. Worktops are available in two standard thicknesses 30mm and 40mm. Other worktop materials such as solid wood, granite, marble effect and tiles surfaces are available upon request.

All worktops are cut individually to size within our factory and are joined using a butt and scribe jointing system which enables the adjoining worktops to be bolted together and the additional use of silicon adhesive ensures a perfectly sealed joint. Should your work-surface need to be cut to accommodate a sink or hob unit then we will also undertake the necessary cutting within our factory.

The worktop is screwed to each and every base cabinet to ensure that you have perfect stability.
